About Rose Marie Cunniffe

Rose Marie was born, raised and educated in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and continues to live and work in that area. She came to art later in life than most, and brought with her the advantages of much observation and an active imagination. She is largely self-taught and her acrylic abstractions are created slowly, layer by layer. In the end they usually tell a story involving fragments of memory. In her art she strives for grace and the lyrical quality that satisfies her sensibilities.

Her work has been selected for many individual and corporate collections, including: QVC, West Chester, Pennsylvania; The Scullin Group, Philadelphia; Philadelphia Arts and Business Council; Wallingford Community Arts Center; Astra-Zeneca, Wilmington, Delaware; The Ballinglen Archive, County Mayo, Ireland. She was the recipient of two fellowships to the Ballinglen Arts Foundation in County Mayo, Ireland.

Her work has also been included in over 200 solo, group and juried exhibitions. Venues include: Philadelphia Art Alliance; Delaware Center for Contemporary Art, Wilmington, Delaware; Widener University, Chester, PA; West Chester University, West Chester, PA; Penn State University, Malvern and Media campuses; Art of the State, Harrisburg, PA; U.S. Artists American Fine Art Show (with Dolan/Maxwell Gallery); Philadelphia Sketch Club; the Courthouse Gallery, County Mayo, Ireland; Wallingford Community Arts Center, Wallingford, PA; Main Line Art Center, Haverford, PA; Wayne Art Center, Wayne, PA. She is also a member of the Exhibition Committee at Wallingford Community Arts Center where she has been curating, co-curating and installing exhibits from 1982 to present.

Rose Marie is delighted when a viewer discovers meanings in her paintings. She believes that art should encourage looking and thinking and feeling, especially finding.
